To measure the proper length for a sword:
1. Hold a bokuto or similar object in your right hand.
2. Let your hand fall naturally to your side.
3. Measure from the where the edge of the bokuto meets the tsuba (guard) to the ground.
4. Subtract one centimeter.
This will give you an accurate measurment for the length sword you need.

The one shown has a 2.5 shaku blade, black cotton tsukamaki, a simple, elegant iron tsuba, and a nami (wave) pattern hamon, and strong hi (groove) to lower the weight and give a good sound during practice. Made by Japanese trained smiths in China, these swords have excellent balance. Swords are available in 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 shaku lengths. Please specify blade length when ordering. For blade lengths over 2.6 shaku, there is a additional charge for the exceptional length. Standard tsuka length is 8.5 sun. Tsuka also available in 8 sun and 9 sun lengths. Shipping on these may take up to 12 weeks.

CS101 Battodo Shinken

Shinken for Battodo
This is the basic model. The one shown has a 2.5 shaku blade, black cotton tsukamaki, a simple, elegant iron tsuba, and a nami (wave) pattern hamon. To give this blade the maximum strength for cutting practice, there is no groove. Made by Japanese trained smiths in China, these swords have excellent balance. Swords are available in 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 shaku lengths. Please specify blade length when ordering. For blade lengths over 2.6 shaku, there is a $200 charge for the exceptional length. Standard tsuka length is 8.5 sun. Tsuka also available in 8 sun and 9 sun lengths. Shipping may take up to 12 weeks.

Like all of the iaito from Meirin, this one has great balance and a tight, professionally wrapped tsuka. This entry level iaito has the more expensive kurotsuya nuri lacquered saya, with the traditional high-gloss, saya. With a weight of 820 grams, this is an excellent iaito for new students.

Meirin Sangyo Iaito
This iaito is an excellent sword for new iaido students. The mounts are simple, standard mounts, with very tight wrapping. The saya is well made, with horn insert in the mouth of the saya, and a zekimoku finish. At a weight of 820 grams, it's light enough that new students won't ruin their wrists while they learn good technique. In addition, this one is available in unusually short sizes for younger iaido students, down to 2 shaku.

88 Hoshogami- Sword cleaning paper

True Japanese swords, shinken, need to be carefully maintained. Made of high carbon steel, they are subject to rust and age if not properly cared for. With proper care though, they can last thousands of years. This fine rice paper is specially selected for cleaning swords. It won't scratch or mar the surface of the sword. This is the traditionally preferred material for wiping down a sword.
