Meirin Sangyo has been providing iaito for longer than any other company in Japan. These iaito have well ballanced blades, with sturdy tsuka wrapped by proffesionals, and well-finished saya complete with deer horn inserts in the koiguchi just like on shinken.

Meirin Sangyo Iaito
This iaito is an excellent sword for new iaido students. The mounts are simple, standard mounts, with very tight wrapping. The saya is well made, with horn insert in the mouth of the saya, and a zekimoku finish. At a weight of 820 grams, it's light enough that new students won't ruin their wrists while they learn good technique. In addition, this one is available in unusually short sizes for younger iaido students, down to 2 shaku.

Like all of the iaito from Meirin, this one has great balance and a tight, professionally wrapped tsuka. This entry level iaito has the more expensive kurotsuya nuri lacquered saya, with the traditional high-gloss, saya. With a weight of 820 grams, this is an excellent iaito for new students.
