Mugendo is proud to offere hakama embroidering. We can do embroidery in English letters or in Japanese Katakana and Kanji. If you would like to have your name converted to kanji or katakana, we will be happy to help you do it. The embroidery is $4.00 per character, for Japanese or English characters. The embroidery is done in the traditional place on a hakama, over the right hip, and is available in tea-gold or red. Enter the English characters in the "comments" section on the order form. If you'd like kanji, make a note in the comments section. Please indicate how many characters you want on the order form.

Nishijin in Kyoto is one of the most famous and highly respected centers of traditional kimono in Japan. For 1000 years, Kyoto was the capitol of Japan and the home of the Emperor. Nishijin was the center of the weaver's art during this time, and Japanese weaving and kimono making reached it's highest developments here. These beautiful obi are made of 100% cotton, woven by top kimono craftsmen in the tradition style. These are the most beautiful iaido obi we have found, with a refined touch that goes wonderfully with hakama. Suitable for Iaido, Aikido, and any art where a hakama is worn.

Good quality tabi really suitable for trainin purposes are almost impossible to find. We are really pleased to be able to offer these finely made tabi with suede soles. They are great for training kenjutsu, assorted weapons, or taijutsu like Aikido. The suede soles provide good traction without the stickness of rubber, and they are soft enough to wear on wood or tatami. And they are great when training in the unheated dojos in Japan!

To measure yourself for a hakama:
Measure from the top or your obi (belt) to the point you want it to hang to. We recommend the top of your ankle, but please check with you instructor, as this can vary between arts. This is the length measurement for hakama.
If you are ordering a 100% cotton hakama, we recommend that you order at
least one size larger than you wear to allow for the natural shrinking
of cotton.
