Itto Ryu Kenjutsu was one of the most influential styles of kenjutsu in Tokugawa Japan, with numerous branches around the country. Itto Ryu was founded during the Sengoku Era in the 1500s c.e. by Ito Ittosai. Ono-Ha Itto Ryu is the most widely practice of the surviving branches of Itto Ryu, with dojos in nearly all parts of Japan. It was also one of the most influential forces in the shaping of what became the sport of kendo at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. It was this connection that lead Ono-Ha Itto Ryu to spread throughout Japan. The influence of the ryu upon kendo is clear even today.

Hyoho Ni Ten Ichi Ryu is the art of the legendary Musashi Miyamoto, the author of The Book of Five Rings. This incredible video by the Nihon Budokan, shows nearly the entire art as it is practiced today in Kyushu. Many people are surprised to learn that most of the kata in Ni Ten Ichi Ryu are for single sword. Only a few of the innermost kata feature the Musashi's famous 2 sword techniques. This video covers all 12 of the single sword kata for tachi and the 7 for kodachi, plus the 5 kata for two swords, as well as the little know bo kata. Maniwa Nen Ryu is the oldest of all existing koryu bugei in Japan, predating even the famous Katori Shinto Ryu. Known for it's signature cutting technique of incredible power, it is one of the great koryu. In this DVD the late Higuchi Soke demonstrated much of Maniwa Nen Ryu's kenjutsu. In addition, their sojutsu (spear) and shiai (match fighting) is also demonstrated.
