Gold With Red. 1 Shaku (30 cm) This folding fan has ribs of bamboo and a body made of
finely lacuered iron, with a painted heavy-duty paper
for the sail. Tessen were a popular concealed weapon
at both the court of the Emperor in Kyoto, and in the
Shogun's castle in Tokyo. Since the wearing of swords
was banned in the prescence of both the Emperor and
the Shogun, the tessen was the perfect answer for
anyone who wanted the security of a sturdy weapon.
This fully functional fan is strong enough to be used
to deflect swrod strikes, and to be used as a weapon
in its own right. Normally in plain gold, the Red Sun
